Dr. 加德纳 specializes in the sensory ecology and behavior of fishes, primarily elasmobranchs (sharks, 溜冰鞋, 和射线). Her research focuses on multisensory integration – understanding how animals use multiple sensory cues simultaneously to perform complex behaviors such as feeding, 导航, 和导航. She is also interested in the interactions between fish and their habitats, specifically the environmental and ecosystem factors that influence habitat use and movements in estuaries and nearshore coastal environments. She has a particular interest in nursery areas and philopatry, or repeated returns to the same areas. Current projects use acoustic telemetry and PIT telemetry to examine habitat use, residency and migration, and to investigate the effects of climate change and coastal development. This research has implications for management and conservation, especially for threatened and endangered species.
